Framed Edition of Lil Red Now Available

My husband Les has been framing some of the 11 x 14 giclee prints of Lil Red in a faux barn wood that really complement the scratch board image.  The total size is 25 x 21.  The print framed in this particular frame is $145.00.  Shipping is extra.  If you are interested in a standalone print or the beautifully framed print, please email me at palmersaz@comcast.net. Happy New Year!

Last Christmas Dog

This is Sienna, a chocolate Lab who I know very well and belongs to my good friend Teresa's daughter. Sienna is a kind and gentle soul and it was my privilege to do her portrait.  This is a pastel and colored pencil piece.  I had a number of commissions at the end of the year and she was the last one I did for Christmas.

New Pieces in Scratch Board!

Here are two new pieces I just completed in a medium you haven't seen from me before on this site - scratch board.  Scratch board is a process using a clay board covered with black India ink where you scratch through the black ink to etch out the light tones instead of, just the opposite,  in pen & ink where you lay down the dark areas.  I love this medium and will be doing a lot more of it.

The dog is a Border Collie - the same dog you have seen here before but in the different medium.  The title is "Waiting for Instruction" and that is pretty much what Border Collies are engaged in when they aren't actually carrying out instructions. I will have 8 1/2 x 11 prints available for $35 plus the mailing cost.

The horse is called "Lil Red" - a name I made up for him.  He was a young red roan horse I fell in love with at a small horse show in Catalina, AZ several summers ago.  I just loved his personality and his lines and I hope wherever he is today that he is enjoying his life. I will have 8 1/2 x 11 prints available also for $35 plus mailing cost.

All of my prints are made professionally using archival inks, high quality papers and are coated with an invisible UV protector.

You can get in touch with me via email at palmersaz@comcast.net if you would like to order prints. These would be great gifts for dog or horse lovers!

Furry Family Member Portraits

I had the privilege of completing portraits of two adorable pups this month.  Pastel and colored pencil on a Strathmore Artagain paper.  I love the whole process of doing pet portraits: meeting the animals and the people who love them, taking the pictures and then seeing the dog or cat or bird suddenly come out of the paper as I'm working on the drawing. Love that moment because it's magic.  When you get the face just right and that particular animal is there suddenly and you say "Oh, hi! There you are." Love that.

Juvenile Bobcat Pastel/Colored Pencil

This little juvenile (teenager) bobcat posed for me in my front yard and I had to capture him on paper. I have 8 x 10" giclee prints available for $29.00.  Enjoy!

Southern Arizona Arts Guild Gallery Artist's Reception

Southern Arizona Arts Guild (SAAG) opened a small gallery of local artists this past spring and I am fortunate enough to be able to show my work there.  The gallery is located in northwest Tucson at the Casas Adobes Plaza, SW corner of Ina and Oracle.

This Friday, August 2 from 5 -8 pm SAAG will be holding an artist's reception to celebrate the newest session.  Some new artists will be featured in the gallery as well as artists who have shown there before, including me.  Some of us alum will have some new offerings, too and most of us will be in locations in the gallery different from the last time.

I have a new piece at Photographic Works for files and prints right now and will hopefully have a few prints and the framed original up that evening. It's a juvenile bobcat that I found sunning itself in my front yard just as bold as you please.  Will post him soon.

I am working on a series of animals you would see at the Desert Museum that will eventually be a card line. The coyote and the bobcat will be part of that.

Love to see you at the reception.  If you can't get there, the gallery is open Tuesday - Saturday 11 am - 7 pm.  Please come visit.  Whether you are a collector, casual buyer or are looking for a unique gift that speaks Arizona, this is a good place to start.

Coyote's Rest

The monsoons have finally arrived in Arizona and our plants and animals are just starting to breathe a sigh of relief. We have a long way to go to replenish our drought-ridden soil, but with the monsoons here, there is always the hope that this summer will be good rain-wise (and the rabbits will quit eating my flowering plants in the front yard).

I was at the Arizona Sonoran Desert Museum the other day for an Art Institute scratchboard class and I thought I would try to get a few good pics of the javelina there.  Well, they were all hiding under the bridges during my one-hour window of opportunity, but who was out - Mr. Coyote for a change.  They always seem to be out of sight when I want to shoot pictures of them, but not today.  So this little guy (our coyotes are a little more petite than in some other states) was just chilling, enjoying the morning and probably waiting for some tasty morsel to run by. He's a beauty.

Coyote's Rest is a pastel/colored pencil drawing on black Strathmore. The original is 9" x 12" and the giclee prints are an affordable 5" x 7" image size on smooth watercolor paper.  Offered at $39.00 plus tax and shipping.  If you are interested, please email me at palmersaz@comcast.net. The original has already sold.
